Do a little research

Posted

As we approach the 2026 Primary, thank you for being involved, thank you for voting! Many of our candidates have resorted to personal attacks, sometimes true, many times not, rather than discussing the issues that impact our lives. Please do a little research before you believe the social media post or the glossy mailer in your mailbox. There was a mailer in the 2024 cycle that accused a candidate of voting for Sharia Law in Texas when in reality the very same mailer referenced a House Resolution that had no vote and if it had, did not support Sharia Law in Texas.

There was a time in Parker County when we ran our elections on issues, not character assassination, and I urge all of us to return to that standard, insist that people campaign with integrity and respect. The local Party’s purpose is to have fair elections that engage all voters by registering, educating, and turning out the vote. Our County, State, and Federal elected officials’ purpose is to make and enforce the laws and Constitutions of our State and the United States. I’ve recently heard an organization present to a Party meeting that he supports litigating what he can’t get passed in the Legislature. That’s not the Republican way. We have never supported legislation from the Bench.

Thought I’d share a Story from the past…

The Republican Party of Texas is divided, between Conservatives and Radicals. They can’t or won’t negotiate to work together. It gets so bad that the radicals elect their own convention delegates and hold separate conventions.

Soon there are more splinter groups seeking to profit from the divide. Some of these groups even enlist the help of Democrats to beat their rivals.

The Democrats, seeing the weakness of the Republicans begin to exploit the division. They began winning Republican supporters by highlighting the divisive issues and trading on the anger of those involved.

Sound familiar?

The Rest of the Story…

While it may sound like the Republican Party of Texas today, this story relates to the newly formed RPT in 1867. Because of its inclusion of free blacks, the RPT had grown strong and was winning elections from Southern Democrats. The Party was generally disregarded when it was first formed but became a threat when it began to win elections.

The uncompromising division which occurred within the RPT in 1867 obliterated the political gains they had made and relegated Texas to Democrat majorities for the next 153 years!

This information was documented and published by the RPT’s Historian, Dr. Tom Westley in 2020. The full story can be found on the RPT website at https://texasgop.org/rp-history-newsletter-1/

Together we made this place we call home great, and together we must protect and defend against all threats. Keep Parker County, Texas, and America GREAT!
