The release said that, as a political outsider, “Dave offers a fresh perspective and a commitment to transparency, efficiency, and customer service.”
“There’s always room for improvement in any business and any operation,” Matthews said. “If someone, especially an incumbent politician, tells you ‘this is how it’s always been done’ or ‘everything’s working just fine,’ they’re probably not thinking outside the box.”
Matthews said he performs many of the same functions as a county clerk in his professional role managing public land records. He’s been sharing tips for navigating the clerk’s office on his Facebook page: Dave Matthews for Parker County Clerk.
“You’d be surprised how many people have never heard of the county clerk,” he said. “Understanding where to go, what documents you need, and who’s responsible for what shouldn’t be a mystery. I’m here to change that. If elected, Parker County residents will know exactly what the clerk does, and how to get what they need, when they need it.”
Matthews served five years in U.S. Army Military Intelligence, followed by service in the Texas National Guard while earning a Bachelor’s in Economics and International Business and an MBA through the GI Bill. His 21-year federal career included oversight of high-performing teams supporting high-value acquisitions for courthouse and border facility construction, as well as IT, cybersecurity, and R&D contracts directly supporting the U.S. military.
On why he chose to run, Matthews said “I got tired of going to the ballot box and seeing only one name next to some positions. That’s not a choice...that’s a formality; and its unhealthy for citizens to have their elected leaders assume that a position is their right simply because they are in the spot now. Once I learned the duties of the county clerk, I wanted to provide voters with that choice that’s been missing.
“Competition drives innovation,” he added. “A robust primary gives voters a real opportunity to evaluate the ideas and choose the best path forward for our county.”
Matthews said he is a proud Parker County resident, husband, and father of six school-aged children. His campaign centers on responsible stewardship of public records, transparency, and modernizing the clerk’s office to better serve the community.
