The Weatherford Kangaroo cross country teams swept the competition at the Burleson Centennial “Green Monster” Spartan Invite on Saturday, Aug. 22.
The boys team scored 37 points and finished first out of eight teams while the girls team scored 38 points and also earned first place out of seven schools.
The Kangaroos were led by Aiden Breax who finished first overall with a time of 16 minutes, 15 seconds. Other Roo runners and results were Aiden Houghton (fourth), James Roe (fifth), Zavier Ascuro (13th), and Saul Saldivar (16th).
The Lady Roos top runner was Remington Boone who earned first place with a time of 18:20. The other Lady Roos and runners were Ivy Scott (fifth), Anna Wyatt (eighth), Aaliyah Dixon (10th), and Nayelli Ordonez (16th).
Weatherford is next scheduled to run at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Greenhill Luke’s Locker Six-mile Relay in Norbuck Park in Dallas.

The Weatherford tennis team lost a tough opening district match at Arlington Martin on Tuesday, Aug. 18, before rebounding against Arlington Sam Houston on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at home.
The Roos lost the first match 15-4. Matthew Trevino won his singles match 6-4, 6-4 in the fourth position while Omar Aguilera won his sixth position singles match 8-6.
The second position girls doubles team of Madeline Jordan and Addy Melven won their match 8-6. The third position boys doubles team of Konner Nickerson and Dylan Poston won their match 8-6.
Against Sam Houston though, Weatherford dominated, winning 19-0. As a team, the Kangaroos lost only 12 points in the one-sided showing.
Matthew Trevino and Jordan were named players of the match. Trevino won his fourth position singles match 8-2 while helping win the second position boys doubles match 8-0 with Caleb Barbee.
Jordan won her first position singles match 8-2 before helping win her second position girls doubles match 8-0 with Addy Melven. Dylan Poston’s third position boy’s singles 8-0 win clinched the team win for Weatherford, although several matches already started continued from there.
The Kangaroos are next scheduled to play a non-district match at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at home against Birdville.
