Cross country: Garrison, Connelly pace Aledo at Southlake

Ladycats fourth as a team

Led by Molly Garrison and Tyler Connelly, the Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats took on the challenging course at Bob Jones Park in Southlake on Saturday, Sept. 6.

Garrison and Connelly each placed fourth individually over the 5-kilometer course. She clocked a time of 17 minutes 45.50 seconds and he finished in 15:09.70. The Ladycats were fourth as a team and the Bearcats were 14th in the elite meet.

“The rain held off. It actually felt like cross country season, and wow did our kids respond,” Aledo coach Mike Pinkerton said. “Everyone’s time dropped dramatically across the board.”

The Aledo varsity competed in the Varsity Elite division, while the junior varsity competed in the Varsity Open division.

“Great day, great course, and great times,” Pinkerton exclaimed.

This week the Aledo varsity is not in a meet, while the JV will compete in the varsity division of the Boswell Invitational on Sept. 13. That’s followed by the Nike South Meet in College Station on Sept. 19.

Weatherford runners compete at Lake Ridge

The Kangaroos and Lady Roos competed in the Mansfield Lake Ridge Invitational on Sept. 5 at Mansfield Sports Complex.

The Lady Roos had two runners finish in the top 10. Nayelli Ordonez was sixth with a time of 20:53.14 over the 5K course, while Sofia White was eighth in 21:03.05.

The Kangaroos were led by Tony Gorman, 17th in 17:16.19, and Aiden Houghton, 18th in 17:22.36. Also, Jack Miller was 24th, 17:30.64; Saul Salvidor, 32nd, 17:52.06; and Jett Hendrix, 35th, 18:03.79.

The junior varsity girls were placed by Chloe Burton, fourth, 22:26.71. Berkley Svedin was ninth, 23:33.08; Ellie Wooten was 11th, 24:24.00; and Kaitlyn Bloching, 12th, 24:29.80.

The top runner for the JV boys was Christopher Daniels, 18th, 19:30.52.

Weatherford was competing at the Mansfield Legacy Meet at press time and is at the Benbrook Prowl in the Park on Sept. 18 at 5 p.m.

 

TCA Eagles third in White Settlement

The Willow Park Trinity Christian Eagles placed third as a team as Boren Merrill was 10th among individuals in the Calvin McGill Invitational at Central Park in White Settlement on Sept. 6. Merrill clocked a time of 18:45.01 over the 5K course.

The Lady Eagles were led by Ellery Wright, 46th, 16:03.67 over 3.2 kilometers.

Four junior high runners finished in the top 10 in their events. Emerald Hall won among seventh-grade girls, posting a 13:24.83 over 2.4K, while Jacob Soto was first among eighth-grade boys with 10:48.79 over 3.2K. Landon Peffer was fourth among seventh-grade boys with a 13:18.00 over 3.2K and Wes Perkins placed ninth among eighth-grade boys with 11:50.

TCA will next compete in the Southwest Christian School Invitational on Sept. 20.
