Crick qualified after shooting a 5-over-par 149 over two days at the Class 5A Region I Tournament at LakeRidge Country Club in Lubbock. She was fourth overall and second among golfers not a part of a qualifying team.
The Ladycats finished fourth in the team standings, shooting a 649 over two days. The top three teams and top three individuals not on those teams qualified for state.
Grapevine won the region with a 613, followed by Amarillo at 630 and Colleyville Heritage at 632.
“I told her three out of four years is pretty impressive. She’s really put in the work and deserves this,” Aledo coach Brian Mourning said. “I’m excited to get down to Georgetown and see what she can do down there.”
In fact, Mourning will be in Georgetown quite a bit over the next couple of weeks. Senior Braden Stokes of the Bearcats qualified for his third state tournament in four years and will also compete at Legacy Hills April 27-28.
Crick has committed to play in college at Texas Wesleyan University and Stokes has committed to the University of Texas at Tyler.
As for the Ladycats as a team, Mourning was pleased with their performance despite falling short of state.
“It’s one of our better performances the last couple of years. It was a good showing,” he said. “That’s 44 strokes better than than last season with two rounds in the 320s. It’s pretty solid. I’m proud of these girls.”
Also for the Ladycats, Sydney Purdon shot 161, Harper Price came in with a 165, Kirkland posted a 174, and Addison Russ finished with a 181. The team score each round is comprised of the four lowest individual scores.
Mourning praised the state course.
“Legacy Hills is a smaller golf course and it’s very well kept,” he said.
Adding about Crick and Stokes, he said, “That’s where you wanna be when the season ends, playing at state, the last tournament of the year. That’s as far as the road goes and once again they’ve gone the distance.”
