Bunco and raffles

A community building and fundraising event

Posted

McCall Elementary School PTO hosted the Boot Scootin’ Bunco & Brunch fundraiser on Feb. 28 at Doss Heritage & Culture Center.

McCall Elementary went through changes over the past couple of years so “we were really trying to build up that community spirit and get everybody invested in McCall Elementary,” said McCall PTO President, Rhema McGrath. “While they were waiting for [the McKinney Elementary] school to be built, all the Morningstar kids were moved to McCall Elementary School and all the normal McCall kids were dispersed throughout Aledo ISD,” said McGrath.

Now that McKinney Elementary is in session, “all of us just got back together at McCall, last year was our first year, so we feel like we’re kind of starting as a brand new school again.”

So with the goal of community connection and fundraising, the event consisted of activities to do just that, including a charcuterie-style brunch by Gather at the Table, six rounds of Bunco, raffles, and a silent auction.

The items and services for the silent auction were donated by local businesses such as Simply Savings Rentals, The Campsite Parties, J. Byrd’s Boutique, ByrdMill, Emmacate Boutique, The Chiropractic Place for Mommy and Me, Harper June Shirts, Game Day Collective, Great Expectations, Aledo Haus of Aesthetics, BIGFOOT INK, ShoMama Box, Yardfetti, Mahjin Mamas, W Dental, Erin Tidwell (aesthetics), ACS - Association & Community Specialists, HELLO by Lauren, VIP Total Health and Hydration Aledo, Beyond Brows, and many more.

“We were hoping to raise $10,000, and we raised $10,745,” said McGrath. The fundraiser allows hopes for a crushed granite walking path near the playground at the school to become a reality.
