Board selects firm for superintendent search

Posted

To assist the Weatherford ISD Board in conducting a search for candidates for the superintendent position, trustees voted to approve a contract with CCR Educational Consultants at its meeting Jan. 13.

CCR will conduct and recruit candidates to replace outgoing superintendent Dr. Beau Rees, who is retiring in summer 2026 after leading the district for almost six years.

An item on the agenda that was held in closed session to possibly name an interim superintendent and for the board to authorize that appointment was not acted upon in open session.

The search for Rees’ replacement is expected to start immediately.

Also at the meeting, the Board was recognized in honor of School Board Appreciation Month, an annual celebration initiated by the Texas Association of School Boards to highlight the “dedicated individuals who tirelessly serve their communities.”

Reid Blackwell, WISD Director of Communications, thanked trustees on behalf of WISD staff and the community for their countless hours of service and for leading with “dedication and care.”

Each board member was presented with the book, The Wild Robot, authored by Peter Brown, because it highlights community and relationships.

Board president Mike Guest, who has been a member of the board for 12 years and its president for several years, said he is “humbled to sit in front of and beside” his fellow members and community.

“This has to be a calling,” he added.

Additionally, members of the Weatherford Varsity Football Team were recognized for academic achievements as well as the male and female athletes of the month, who were each part of their respective wrestling teams.

Also at the meeting, the board:

  • Heard campus reports from Weatherford High School and the Ninth Grade Center. Principals Dr. Bill Tommaney and Dr. Jessica Duenez each highlighted teachers of the year, campus staff and academic achievements and focuses.
  • Approved the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report presented by Rick Kline of the accounting firm Snow Garrett Williams, who performed the independent audit. WISD received a “clean” opinion from the firm.
  • Called for the May 2 election for places 6 & 7, if needed. A conditional contract was then entered into with the Parker County Elections Administration for that election. If there are no races that are contested, the contract and the election will be canceled.
  • Approved the purchase of 150 Lenovo laptops to replace outdated teacher equipment. Cost of the replacements are estimated at $125,925 and were already included in the 2025-2026 adopted budget.

The board meets next on Feb. 9.
