The Aledo Bearcats defeated visiting Benbrook 49-27 and Carter Riverside 63-6 on Dec. 14, while the Ladycats dropped a 36-30 contest to Benbrook.

The match with Carter-Riverside ended with pins from all but one wrestler. Jimmy Kyser, wrestling in the 215-pound weight class, kicked off his varsity debut with a second-period pin at 3:56. He also won by forfeit against Benbrook.

“It was a great performance from the whole team,” said coach Austin Stockon.

The Benbrook match got started by a second-period pin by Brice Bohn (106 pounds) at 2:34. This was followed up by pins from Chad Thomas (120) at 1:29, Jacob Ellerbusch (132) at 49 seconds, Colonel Douglas, (165) 2:29 into his match and Max Toth (175) at the 2:32 mark. Wins also came from Grady Saunders (126) on a 9-6 decision and Ty Hand (157) on an 11-2 major decision. Also, Britton Collins (190) won by forfeit. Freshman Brady Powell (157) showed off his skill in his varsity exhibition with a second-period pin.

Pins against Carter Riverside were by Thomas (126), 2:54; Zach Attaway (150), 3:05; and Collins, 2:42. Also, Kyle Scharlow (144) won a 7-6 decision, while Bohn, Ellerbusch, Douglas and Toth won by forfeit. Hand (157) won by injury default by his opponent. In exhibition matches, Collins and Scharlow also won by fall.

The Ladycats might have won their match against Benbrook were it not for three forfeits in which they did not have wrestlers in those weight classes.

Meanwhile, Avery Kernan (107) won in a pin at 49 seconds, Kyra Wright (114) posted a second-period pin at 3:54, Arianne Matias (145) had a third-period pin at 4:46 and Baillie Sessom wrestled up a weight class at 235 and won by a pin at 1:43. Rilei Blankenship (152) won by forfeit and also got a pin in her exhibition bout.

The Bearcats and Ladycats return to the mats on Dec. 30 at the Azle Quad.
