Bearcats rout Weatherford

Look ahead to district

It was the kind of week every team hopes for as they prepare to transition into the meat and potatoes of their schedule. The varsity Aledo Bearcats soccer team (4-2) outscored Burleson Centennial and Weatherford by a combined 12 goals to one in spite of suffering several key injuries to their defense in weeks past.

“This team’s clicking,” Bearcat gaffer Derek Vierling said after the match with Weatherford. “We stayed healthy tonight. We’re scoring goals and keeping them from scoring. That’s a winning combination.”

The match with Weatherford at Tim Buchanan Stadium on Friday, Jan. 17, was a lopsided affair in favor of the home team with senior striker Austin Randriamahefa posting his second hat trick in a row to close out the Bearcats’ preseason schedule.

Aledo took charge in the contest early on as the Bearcats pressed the action onto the Roos’ side of the field. Kyle Storck put the Bearcats on the board with the opening goal in the 12th minute.

Storck worked his way behind the back line of Weatherford’s defense creating a one-on-one opportunity between him and the keeper. As the keeper moved out of the net to cut off the advance, Storck slid to strike the ball towards the corner past the keeper for the early goal.

That when Randriamahefa took over.

Randriamahefa scored his first goal of the match with just less than nine minutes remaining in the first half. Trapper Davis led the charge as he raced to the goal. As the keeper sped from the net and dove to cut off Davis, the Bearcat striker’s feet got tangled up with the keeper. Davis stumbled as the ball trickled over to Randriamahefa, who was all alone. With a wide open goal, he directed the ball into the net to give Aledo the 2-0 advantage.

His second goal came just moments later as he had a clean look at the goal from 20 yards out before burying the shot with just over five minutes remaining in the opening half.

He concluded the hat trick in the 55th minute of play with a clean tapper into the goal making it a 4-0 game for Aledo.

“[Randriamahefa] put on a show tonight,” Vierling said, praising his star offensive weapon. “He’s very talented. He’s got great ball skills. I’m blessed to be coaching him.”

With the game well in hand, Vierling went to his bench. Adrian Solis scored a goal of his own midway through the second half on a second-chance opportunity after the Weatherford keeper was unable to secure the ball off a blocked shot.

With just 25 seconds left to the play the Bearcats added their final goal to close out the feature.
