Bearcats pace all-district honors

Finley named MVP

Just as they did in the district race, the Aledo Bearcats topped the coaching selections on the 2025 All-District 3-5A Football Team announced recently.

Aledo, which won an 18th consecutive district championship dating to 2008, had 26 players named to the team, along with the Aledo coaches being named Coaching Staff of the Year. The Bearcats also ran their national-record district winning streak to 135 games this season with a perfect 8-0 mark in league play.

The Bearcats were ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 5A Division I all season and advanced to the state semifinals before their season ended in a wild 56-52 loss to No. 3 Frisco Lone Star on Dec. 12. They finished the season with an overall record of 14-1, which included two victories against No. 2 Denton Ryan, 15-14 in Denton during district and 43-17 in the state quarterfinals.

Senior wide receiver Kaydon Finley was named the district’s most valuable player. The Notre Dame commit caught 75 passes for 1,483 yards and 21 touchdowns.

 

Also garnering superlative honors were:

Senior quarterback Lincoln Tubbs (937 yards, 11 TD rushing; 71% completions, 2,061 yards, 24 TD, 4 interceptions passing), Utility Player of the Year.

Senior linebacker Chase Wilburn (99 tackles, 15 for loss, 2 sacks), Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Sophomore defensive back Jordan Hall (17.5 tackles, 1 for loss), Defensive Newcomer of the Year.

 

First-team offensive selections went to:

Senior running back Kaden Winkfield (1,012 yards, 26 TD rushing).

Senior fullback Brady Powell (1,106 yards, 15 TD rushing).

Senior tight end Skylar Kirk (13 catches, 189 yards, 4 TD).

Junior wide receiver Bayne Marrtin (33 catches, 469 yards, 5 TD).

Junior center Grant Foreman.

Senior guard Ryan Campbell

Senior tackle Payton Williams.

Junior tackle Omari Din-Mbuh.

 

Named to the first-team defense were:

Senior end Cooper Cyphers (64.5 tackles, 22 for loss, 10.5 sacks, forced fumble).

Junior end Carson Dempsey (22 tackles, 7 for loss, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles).

Senior tackle Tymon Meeks (59.5 tackles, 15 for loss, 5.5 sacks, fumble recovery).

Senior tackle Decker Sanders (50 tackles, 10 for loss, 2 sacks, blocked kick).

Junior inside linebacker Cole Cox (80.5 tackles, 11.5 for loss, 2 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries).

Senior outside linebacker Ryland Haley (74.5 tackles, 9 for loss, 2 sacks, interception, forced fumble).

Junior cornerback Alex Patton (19 tackles, 1 for loss, 3 interceptions with 1 returned for TD, blocked kick).

Senior safety Kamron Hall (52.5 tackles, 5 for loss, 2 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, forced fumble).

Senior safety Lamel Swanson (64.5 tackles, 5 for loss, 2 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries).

First-team special teams honors went to senior kicker Peyton Shaffer. He averaged 44.7 yards per kickoff, was 90-of-93 on extra points, 10-of-14 on field goals with a long of 39 yards, and averaged 34 yards on three punts.

 

Second-team offense accolades were given to:

Junior tight end Colby Thompson.

Senior wide receiver Jamal Hollister (27 catches, 372 yards).

Senior guard Kruger Summers.

Junior tackle Cooper Elms.
