The Aledo Ladycats began the 2023 powerlifting season with a runner-up finish at Granbury on Jan. 11. Nine Ladycats received medals.

Senior Avery Gray won the 259-pound-plus division, lifting a total of 695 pounds. Fellow senior Taylor Senhem took first in the 114-pound class with a total weight lifted of 510 pounds.

Finishing second in their respective divisions were senior Taylor Paetzold, 181 class, 630 pounds; sophomore Ari Mathias, 148 class, 680 pounds; senior Hannah Good, 132 class, 520 pounds; and junior Morgan Senhem, 114 class, 505 pounds.

Third-place finishers were junior Stella Kendall, 132 class, 475 pounds; freshman Adrianna Lambert, 220 class, 630 pounds; and sophomore Charlee Soward, 122 class, 505 pounds.

“It was a great first meet of the year. Our goal was to focus on technique. We did a great job hitting that goal,” coach Josh Morgan said. “To place as a team and have that many girls place individually is a real positive for the rest of the season.

“As a team our numbers have more than doubled from last year. The returning girls have come in focused and ready to go. The newcomers are eager to learn and have been very coachable. It is a fun group and I think we are gearing up for a great season.”
