Meanwhile, rain canceled the remainder of the tournament for the Ladycats while they were on the back nine in the second round on Saturday. They were in fifth place at the time.
Braden Stokes led the Bearcats, shooting a 1-under-par 143 over two days to place in a tie for first individually. As a team, Aledo posted rounds of 308 and 312.
“The tournament went well until the rain came in,” Aledo head coach Brian Mourning said. “Braden tied for first and I’m happy for him.”
Mourning said, however, he’d like to see both boys and girls get off to better starts.
“We need to be better through our first three or four holes,” he said. “We put ourselves in a hole early and it makes us tough on us.”
The Ladycats were led by Emily Crick, who shot a 3-over-par 75 on the opening day and was 8 over par overall at the time of the stoppage. Sydney Purdon shot 83 on Friday and was 5 over in the second round when the rains came. Harper Price was 6 over on Day 2.
Also playing for the Ladycats were Addison Russ and Kenzie Todey.
The four lowest scores in each round comprised the team scores.
The Bearcats and Ladycats hosted their annual fundraiser at Squaw Creek on Sunday, Oct. 19 at Squaw Creek Golf Course in Willow Park. Mourning said the turnout was great with 29 teams. He expressed thanks for the support.
Aledo boys and girls Black and Orange varsity teams will compete in the District 5-5A Preview at Cross Timbers Golf Course in Azle on Oct. 27.
