Stokes fourth individually

Posted

Facing opponents they could see later this spring, the Aledo Bearcats finished fifth in the Class 5A Region I Preview Golf Tournament on Mar. 6-7 at Lake Ridge Country Club in Lubbock.

Aledo had a two-day total of 644, one shot behind fourth-place Fort Worth Paschal. Abilene Wylie won with a 619, followed by Argyle at 630 and Amarillo Tascosa with a 636.

Individually, senior Braden Stokes led Aledo with a two-day total of 148 for fourth place. He opened with a 4-over-par 76 and came back with an even-par 72 on the second day, finishing two strokes out of second place.

Senior Maddox Jessup had the next lowest score for Aledo with a 165, opening with an 86 and improving on Day 2 to a 79. Senior Ryland Haley (82-84) came in with a 166, while senior Logan Lund (85-85) and junior Boukadoum (81-91) finished with a 170 and 172, respectively.

Playing as a medalist, sophomore Alec Dolman shot 166 (81-85).

The four lowest individual scores in each round comprise the team score for that round.

“Maddox Jessup is returning from a wrist injury this past fall. Second tournament back and good to see him back under 80 again,” Bearcats coach Brian Mourning said. “This was Alec’s and Evan’s first time on the course and we feel like they played okay.

“The course played tough over the two days - Friday 30 mph winds and Saturday winds 20 mph. No excuses, everyone played the same course.”

Orange third at Canyon West

Playing in the Weatherford Roo Classic at Canyon West, Aledo Orange placed third with a team score of 340 over 18 holes. Benbrook won with a 322 and Boswell was second with a 324.

Sophomore Christian Moll of Aledo Orange third individually, posting a 79. Also for the Bearcats, sophomore Cain Goggans shot 86 and sophomore Archer English finished with an 87.

Seniors Christian and Jack Hagood shot 88 and 89, respectively.
