Bearcats extend streak with win at home

Posted

The Aledo Bearcats withstood a challenge from District 5-5A rival Burleson Centennial to win their own Bearcat Relays on Thursday, March 9. Aledo finished with 199 points and Centennial was second with 170.

It was the 11th consecutive regular-season track meet won by the Bearcats dating to 2021.

The Bearcats won two of three relays (400 and 1600) and took second in another (800), which was critical in their win as the Spartans were second in the 400 and 1600 and won the 800.

Aledo also got key gold medal performances from Vincent Luffey in the 800-meter run and 3200. Evan Thompson did likewise, winning gold in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Isaac Sohn won the shot put and Sean Gribble continued his dominance in the pole vault.

The Bearcats also won at the junior varsity level, outdistancing Centennial 198-118.

“It was a great win for both varsity and JV divisions,” coach Andrew Clark said. “Spring break will be good for us as we don’t have a meet and the kids will get a little recovery time. We should be ready to go when we get back after the break and compete in Joshua.”

The Bearcats and Lady return to competition on March 24 in Joshua.
