Posted

The Aledo Bearcats are entering the Class 5A boys soccer playoffs with back-to-back shutouts following a 5-0 home victory against Granbury on Friday, March 10. That was preceded by a 1-0 home win over Azle on Tuesday, March 7.

It was the 15th time this season the Bearcats (13-5-2) surrendered one goal or less. It was their eighth shutout.

The Bearcats finished third in District 5-5A with a 7-4-1 league mark. They will play Fort Worth Northside, the runner-up in District 6-5A, at Clark Stadium in Fort Worth at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 24.

Prior to bi-district, Aledo will host Waxahachie Life in a warmup game at home at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 20.

“The defense has really stepped up last couple of games. Gives us some confidence heading into the playoffs,” Bearcats coach Derek Vierling said.

Deagan Dietz was the goalkeeper. He was amply supported with an explosive offense that was highlighted by two goals and an assist by Clay Murador.

Also scoring goals for Aledo were Austin Randriamahefa, Peyton Shaffer and Bruce Nogueira. Adrian Solis had a pair of assists, while Cole Crawford and Zach Reynolds also assisted.

Following league champion Brewer (14-2-3, 9-1-2), the race for postseason positioning was extremely tight in 5-5A. Wichita Falls Rider finished second with 24 standings points, Aledo was third with 22 and Northwest was fourth with 22.

The Bearcats split their two matches each with Rider and Northwest.
