Coyotes’ season ends in super regionals

The Weatherford College Coyotes’ baseball season ended on Saturday, May 16 with a 13-1 loss to Midland in the NJCAA Texas Super Region V Tournament at Roger Williams Ballpark.

The Coyotes finished 41-20 overall and second in the Super Region. They began the four-team double-elimination tournament with an 8-0 loss to McLennan Community College on May 14 before bouncing back with a 12-1 win over Howard College the next day. In an elimination game on May 16, they defeated McLennan 10-8 before losing to Midland, which now advances to the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

WC qualified for the Super Regional by sweeping Nex Mexico Military Institute in the opening round of the Region V playoffs, 5-1 and 10-4.

GOLF

WC men finish in fifth at nationals

The Weatherford College men’s golf team finished its most outstanding season yet, taking fifth place at the NJCAA DI Men’s National Championship at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas. 

It marks the best finish for WC since the program’s inception, a 10-spot improvement from last year’s 15th-place finish.

WC held off sixth-place Central Alabama by three strokes to secure its spot in the final grouping alongside champion McLennan and runner-up Indian Hills.

Michael Mayer tied for 10th place, finishing nine over par.

WC women fourth at nationals

The Weatherford College women’s golf team took fourth place at the NJCAA DI Women’s National Championship held at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois. 

The Coyotes improved by nine positions as they finished in 13th place last year.

Corrina Haros tied for ninth place individually, shooting several under-par shots across the tournament.

SOFTBALL

Coyotes SW District runners-up

The Weatherford College Coyotes (40-16) finished second in the Southwest District Championship at Wrangler Softball Complex this past week.

The Coyotes overwhelmed Western Texas College in an 11-1 blowout and defeated conference rival McLennan Community College in a comeback 12-10 victory, but lost the championship game 14-6 to Odessa College.

TENNIS

Coyotes sixth at NJCAA Tournament

The Weatherford College men’s tennis team concluded its post-season run, maintaining its sixth-place spot at the NJCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament at Collin College in Plano.

The Coyotes improved by eight positions, placing 14th in last year’s event.

Benjamin Asker and Julian Blainey won the Flight 3 consolation final matchup against Pablo Garcia and Tomas Kurz from Eastern Florida State College, taking the 8-5 victory.

Andres Serrano lost the Flight 3 consolation final versus Johan Mottlau of Eastern Florida with a score of 8-5.

Matteo Cardoso lost 9–8 in the Flight 1 consolation final against Haruki Okude of Cowley College.
