Another district sweep for Aledo

All four AHS teams win 5-5A

Posted

Continuing a dominance that has been in place for years, the Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats swept to the District 5-5A cross country championships on Friday, Oct. 10 at Central Park in White Settlement.

Meanwhile, both Aledo junior varsity teams swept the boys and girls championships at that level. In fact, the JV Bearcats scored a perfect score of 15 by capturing the top five individual places.

“All runners did an outstanding job on a challenging course,” Aledo coach Mike Pinkerton said.

The varsity Ladycats scored 25 points to easily outdistance runner-up Azle with 58. The varsity Bearcats scored 24 points, more than tripling that of second-place Azle with 76.

In cross country, the lower the score, the better the finish.

The JV Bearcats bested Azle’s 50 and the JV Ladycats tallied 28 points, edging Azle with 36.

The Ladycats and Bearcats will advance their entire teams to the Class 5A Region I Meet on Monday, Oct. 20 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. From there, the top four teams and top 10 individuals qualify for state on Friday, Oct. 31 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.

The Ladycats and Bearcats each qualified their entire team last season, a second straight season for the Aledo varsity girls. The Ladycats finished second in 2023 and third in 2024.

Individually at district, the varsity Ladycats were led by Molly Garrison’s first-place finish in a time of 18:37.64 over 5K. Tyler Connelly led the varsity Bearcats with a time of 15:57.87, also taking first.

The JV Ladycats were led by Holly Thomas, who clocked in with a time of 22:30.80 for first. The JV Bearcats were placed by top runners Reed Murray, who finished with a time of 17:35.94.
