Aledo wrestlers third in tourney

Posted

The Aledo Bearcats returned to Azle over the Jan. 7 weekend for the Nest Invitational, just one week after a strong second-place showing in the Hornet Dual Tournament. This time the Bearcats overcame a rough start to finish third.

Maxwell Toth paced Aledo, taking first place in the 165-pound division. It was the second consecutive meet in which a Bearcat won an individual title as Colonel Douglas won at 157 a week before.

Also for Aledo, Chad Thomas finished in a three-way tie for first in the 120 division, but wound up second via a tiebreaker. He defeated the tiebreaking winner, however.

Two others finished third in their respective divisions, Brice Bohn at 106 and Britton Collins at 190.

The Aledo junior varsity also had a strong showing, with 20 of 36 wrestlers placing fourth or higher.

Placing first were Ian McCormick, Brady Powell, Samuel Belyeu, Randy Dixon, Bryce Vonasek and Carlos Obregon.

Runners-up were Briley Perkins, Jayden Escalera, Michael Parks, Ethan Pickett and Kruger Summers.

Third-place finishers included Grady Saunders, Brennen Allen, Lawson Stewart, Lucas Todd and Anthony Rivas.

Capturing fourth were Samuel Haught, Mark Graham, Tyler Navarro and Anthony Flower.

The Aledo varsity boys and girls were competing in a tri-meet at Springtown at press time, as was the JV in their league meet in Keller.
