Aledo teams compete at Weatherford

Varsity posts 28 top-three finishes

Posted

The Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats made a short trek down the road on March 26 to compete in the Kangaroo Relays hosted by Weatherford High School.

While no official team scores were reported, Aledo teams across the board had a strong showing. The varsity girls and boys teams each had 14 top-three finishes.

The Ladycats had gold medals won by Holland Gladchuk in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs, along Sawyer Voight in the high jump and long jump. The Bearcats got individual gold medal performances from Isaac Brooks in the 100 hurdles and long jump, while Jake Lancaster won the discus and the 4x200 relay also took first.

At the junior varsity level, they also had 28 top-three finishes (16 girls, 12 boys) with all three boys relays finishing first.

“We had several girls not run in this meet or not run their ‘normal’ events. We are gearing up for district next week, so the same will take place at the Azle meet this week,” Ladycats coach Mike Pinkerton said. “We are currently very close to being where we need to be for district.”

The Bearcats and Ladycats were competing at Azle at press time. They will host the District 5-5A Meet on April 9-10.

Also for the Bearcats, Tyler Connelly is competing in the Texas Relays at the University of Texas in Austin this week.
