Aledo swimmers qualify for regionals

The Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats will send a host of swimmers to regional competition following their performance at the District 5-5A Meet at Northwest ISD Natatorium on Jan. 20.

The Ladycats finished second as a team and the Bearcats were third. Numerous girls and boys compete in the 5A Region II Meet at Debbie Weems Natatorium in Mansfield Feb. 3-4, with qualifiers from there advancing to state in Austin Feb. 17-18.

The Bearcats set two school records en route to their runner-up finish. The 200 medley relay clocked a district-winning time of one minute, 43.79 seconds, breaking a record that had stood since 2009, while the 200 freestyle relay’s time of 1:36.06 broke a record from 2012.

Both relays were comprised of the same swimmers, seniors Tanner Howse and Sam Ogden, along with juniors Porter Lane and Kyle Scharlow.

Winning district in their respective events were:

  • Girls 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays with sophomores Victoria Crews, Haley Roberson and Corah Satterfield, with freshman Natalie Hutson.
  • Roberson, 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle.
  • Howse, 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
  • Ogden, 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle.

Also qualifying for regionals were senior Madeline Gordy, 200 IM; juniors Hunter Gregory 100 back, 400 free relay; Porter Lane, 50 free, 100 breast, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay; Breanna Olivieri, 50 free, 100 back; sophomores Bradyn Baughman, 400 free relay; Crews, 100 fly; Avery Faulkner, 100 back, 400 free relay; Tila Moeller, 500 free, 400 free relay; Alex Pomales, 400 free relay; Satterfield 100 fly, 100 back; freshmen Alli Faulkner, 400 free relay; Julia Gordy, 100 free, 400 free relay; Hutson, 500 free, 100 back; Brady Ludlow, 400 free relay; and Addison Speed, 100 breast.

Several swimmers are seeking a return to state, including Roberson (200 IM, 200 free relay, 400 free relay in 2022), Ogden (100 free, 100 back), Oliveri (200 free relay, 400 free relay) and Crews (200 free relay, 400 free relay).
