The Aledo boys and girls wrestling season came to an end this past weekend at the Class 5A Region I Tournament at West Texas A&M University in Canyon.

Three Aledo wrestlers advanced to the final eight (quarterfinals) in their respective weight classes. For the Ladycats, that was Kyra Wright in the 126-pound division and Baillie Sessom in the 185 category. For the Bearcats, Bryce Vonasek reached the top eight in the 215 weight division.

Each of the three posted a pair of victories and had a pair of losses in the tournament.

"Sadly, our season came to an end this weekend, but I am so proud of how our kids competed and the improvements we have made since last season," coach Austin Stockon said.

Three other Bearcats posted victories before being eliminated. They were Brice Bohn (113), Kyle Scharlow (150) and Sam Belyeu (165). Cooper Cyphers also competed in the 285 division.

Also competing for the Ladycats were Avery Kernan in the 107 division and Rilei Blankenship at 132.

Bohn was an alternate for state in 2023, while Wright, Kernon and Blankenship were also making their second straight trip to regionals.
