Posted

Led by the runner-up individual finish of freshman Molly Garrison, the Aledo Ladycats continued a strong tradition of success in the AHS cross country program Tuesday, qualifying as a team for the Class 5A State Cross Country Meet.

As a team, the Ladycats placed fourth, advancing them to Round Rock on Nov. 5. The top four teams and top 10 individuals not on qualifying teams will compete at state.

“It was an amazing day today for the Aledo Ladycats!” exclaimed head coach Mike Pinkerton.

The Bearcats narrowly missed returning as a team, placing fifth, but they will be represented by Jack Fink, who qualified individually by placing 13th. Overall, the Bearcats were just four points out of a runner-up finish.

Garrison’s time of 18 minutes, 30.3 seconds over the 5K course was less than one second behind the regional champion. Fink clocked a 16:11.9.

The Ladycats had three runners finish in the top 13. Sofia Brandenburg was 11th in a time of 19:22.1 and Elizabeth Griffin was 13th in 19:26.9.
