The Aledo varsity tennis team played in the Sharon Wartes Eagle Invitational this past weekend in Abilene with some great competition. This was a huge tournament with 32 teams in each bracket.
Leading the Aledo contingent were Patrice Loftin and Jacob Heckathorn, who won first place in their mixed doubles bracket.

Kenley Germany/Lila Satterfield, fifth in girls doubles A.
Sydney Byrd, sixth in girls
singles B.
Scott Mason/Elli Kate Bussmeir, sixth mixed doubles A.
Bryanna Orr, ninth girls doubles A (consolation champion).
Will Beyer/Francois Britz, ninth boys doubles B (consolation champions).
Craig Mason/Ben Farmer, 11th boys doubles A.
Ben Kurth, 13th, boys singles A.
Overall, the team came away with more wins than losses and great preparation for the District 5-5A Tournament. They will head to Mansfield on Friday, April 12 for the Kowbell Classic tournament.
After a rained out tournament in Midlothian, spring break and a non-competition week, the team came back strong to earn medals in nine divisions at the tournament hosted by Waxahachie High School on March 28.
With impressive 4-0 records for the day, Orr won first place in girls A singles, Beyer and Britz captured first place in the boys doubles B division and S. Mason and Bussmeir claimed first place in mixed doubles A.
After a first round loss, Kurth fought his way to first place in the consolation round for boys singles A division, with a record of 3-1 for the day. Casen Freeland earned two wins in the boys singles B division.
Gracie Heydman and Byrd took second place in the girls doubles B division, ending the day with a 3-1 record. Heckathorn and Loftin placed second in the mixed doubles A division with a 3-1 record, after battling S. Mason and Bussmeir in an all Aledo final.
C. Mason and Farmer earned 3rd place in the boys doubles A division with a 3-1 record for the day. Also placing third were Germany and Satterfield (2-1) in the girls doubles A division, and Natalie Nawrocki (3-1) in the girls singles B division.
