Aledo opens season in Peach Bowl

Posted

The Aledo varsity tennis team began their spring season on Jan. 27 in the annual Peach Bowl tournament, held on various courts throughout the area. Four groups of players finished in the top four places of their respective bracket.

All 10 groups competed in the A Division, meaning they all were seeded in the top 16 of the 24 entries in their specific discipline.

The boys doubles team of Scott Mason/Hogan Posey won first place. In mixed doubles, Craig Mason/Bryanna Orr finished in third place.

Both Elli Kate Bussmeir in girls singles and Kenley Germany/Paige Federman in girls doubles finished fourth. Gracie Heydman won the consolation title in girls singles.

“It was a great start to the new season. We got to play a lot of tennis (nearly everyone played four matches each),” coach Joe McCoy said. “All of our players competed well and showed some bright spots in their shot making. We will build on these results and grow as a team as we strive to get better every time we step on the court.”

The next varsity tournament will be hosted by Boswell Friday, February 3, weather permitting.
