While the word “growth” did not appear on the agenda for the Aledo City Council’s meeting on Feb. 27, it was primarily growth that the council addressed.
The biggest-ticket item was the approval by the council to issue certificates of obligation of $27,775,000 for the purpose of sewer line improvements.
City Manager Noah Simon said he expects annual payments to be about $1,115 million, and that the funds will come from utility funds.
Somewhat related was the council’s approval of an item on the consent agenda to seek $3,164,100 from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) that would be used to cover the cost of relocating utilities along FM 1187.
Mayor Nick Stanley explained that TxDOT has already allocated funding to expand FM 1187 south of the Aledo Commons traffic circle. The project will require Aledo to move water and sewer lines.
“That burden is untenable for the City of Aledo,” Stanley said, so the city is seeking TxDOT to pay for the relocation of the utilities through a special program it has for that purpose.
The council also approved a development agreement with Moncrief Properties, LLS, regarding property at 2 Dean Drive. The agreement outlines the responsibilities of the parties regarding the provision of water and sewer services to the property, which lies in Aledo’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.
