A note from the publisher

Posted

An old saying that “change is the only constant” especially applies to the business of printing newspapers.

A little more than a year ago, the company that printed our newspaper went out of business, leaving only one company in the DFW metroplex that could print our newspaper according to our specs.

Our year-long relationship with that company is about to end.

As of the Nov. 6 issue, we are moving our printing to College Station. That change will have an effect on what you see each week.

The biggest (smallest?) change you will see is that we will lose an inch and a half of width. We are changing the layout so that ad sizes will not be affected. This change will actually put us in league with most other newspapers out there. They went to smaller width a long time ago while we stayed with a wider width.

To compensate for less page space, we are increasing the number of pages so the amount of content should not be affected,

The printer in College Station prints other newspapers around the state, and we have been able to arrange for our papers to hitch a ride with papers from another publication.

Because there will be a change in print schedule, there is a slight possibility that mailings may go out on Friday instead of Thursday, but we believe we have that situation in hand as well.

We are excited about the change — we will be printing at a newspaper instead of a multi-purpose printing company, and I believe that will derive to everyone’s benefit.

I want to say to all who have experienced recent delivery delays and issues that I appreciate your patience — this change should remedy the problems that created the delays.

I also want to say thank you to our subscribers and advertisers. You may not realize that you are performing a community service, but that’s what this enterprise does, and we could not do it without you!
