Two Parker County children found inside a locked car were pronounced dead Friday afternoon west of Lake Weatherford.

Parker County Sheriff’s investigators were called to the 200 block of Rambling Loop where two children were found unresponsive by their mother.

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said the incident was reported shortly after 4 p.m., when the temperatures had reached about 96 degrees.

The children were identified as a 16 month-old boy and a girl who had celebrated her second birthday in late February.

According to the sheriff’s office, the mother said the children “took off.” The mother said she searched the area for the children and later found them locked inside a small four-door car on the property. According to the report, the mother surmised the children had entered the car and locked themselves inside.

The mother reportedly broke a window of the vehicle to gain entry, finding both children unresponsive.

Emergency medical personnel were immediately contacted. Both children were pronounced deceased at 4:33 p.m.

“This case is in the early stages of the investigation,” Sheriff Fowler said. “Any comment regarding this case at this time, would be an assumption, until all of the facts are gathered.”

Fowler added that incidents involving any child are always difficult, but this call was especially heartbreaking with the unfortunate deaths of two children.
