Ladycats begin grueling first-week workout schedule with mile run
The 2010 Aledo Ladycats volleyball team will begin August two-a-day workouts on Monday, Aug. 2 with the "Going's Mile" run at 7:30 a.m. at Bearcat Stadium.
Each Ladycat is required to run a mile in eight minutes or less or she will not be able to practice. Last season, every varsity Ladycat ran the mile in less than eight minutes.
Bearcat Football Camp begins Monday

Aledo Bearcats quarterbacks coach Blake Christenson instructs young signal-caller hopefuls last year at the Bearcats Football Camp. Camp will run Monday through Thursday, Aug. 2-5, and late registration is available.
The 2010 Bearcat Football camp will be held Monday through Thursday, Aug. 2-5 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the AHS practice fields for students entering grades 3-9.
Cost is $80 per camper, and late registration is available on all camp days.
Family rates include $120 for two campers and $160 for three or more campers.

Former Ladycat Kendall Kizer to play in TGCA softball all-star game today

Former All-District 6-4A first-team second baseman Kendall Kizer will play for the West squad at 7 p.m. today (Tuesday, July 13) at the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 5A/4A All-Star Game at the Workman Complex in Arlington.
Pre-game ceremonies begin at 6:30 p.m.
Kizer will play softball next year at Vernon College.
The all-star game is part of the annual week-long TGCA summer clinic.
The 3A/2A/1A game will begin at 4:30 p.m. today at the Workman Complex. Brock's Meghan Bailey will be playing for the West team.
New coach Steve Smith's first Aledo Cage Camp

New Aledo Bearcats head boys basketball coach Steve Smith goes over the finer points of the game Monday morning at the Bearcat Basketball Aledo Cage Camp at the AHS gym.
This morning campers worked on dribbling, passing, perimeter shooting and free throw shooting before playing in 3-on-3 games at the end of the session.
The camp ends Thursday, July 15.
Hix to be featured in July 16 issue

Former Aledo Bearcats all-state offensive lineman Kyle Hix (64), entering his senior season at the University of Texas, will be featured in the sports section of the July 16 issue of The Community News.
Hix has played in 40 games in three years for the Longhorns. He has started the last 28 games for Texas, including last season's BCS Championship Game.
He was an All-Big 12 selection last year.

The Aledo Ladycats Volleyball Camp concludes today (Thursday, July 8) after four days of morning and afternoon sessions. Above, Katie Mitchell bumps a pass up to the net during a frantic serve/receive drill in the afternoon session (grades 7-9) that had the girls hustle to five different spots to return balls.
The Aledo Ladycats will begin August two-a-day practices on Monday, Aug. 2 with an early-morning mile run.
The Ladycats season opener will be Monday, Aug. 9 with a dual match at Waco Midway. Granbury will be the third team at the match.

Former Bearcat pitcher Talley signs with Weatherford College

Aledo High School graduate Ryan Talley has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Weatherford College next season.
The six-foot-two-inch pitcher was an All-District selection in both baseball and basketball for the Bearcats last season, and was a Christian Athlete of the Year nominee.
