Aledo faces upcoming league, regional foes

The Aledo varsity tennis team competed at the Northwest ISD Tournament on Friday, April 19 against some upcoming District 5-5A and Regional I competitors.  

Bryanna Orr went 4-0 for the day and earned first place in Girls Singles A. Orr beat district rival Wichita Falls Rider 6-1, 6-2 in the finals to clinch the win.  

In Boys Singles B, Ben Kurth also went 4-0 to earn first place, while Casen Freeland finished second with a 3-1 record.

In Boys Doubles A, Benjamin Farmer and Craig Mason went 3-1, earning their way to the finals with marathon tie-breakers with Plano East. Farmer and Mason won the semi-final match 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (6-8), 17-15, but fell to Argyle in the finals to earn second place overall.

On April 12, the team competed in the Kowbell Classic tournament in Mansfield, earning five medals.  

Jacob Heckathorn and Patrice Loftin won first place in the Mixed Doubles Consolation bracket with a 3-1 record for the day.

Finishing second in the tournament was Orr in Girls Singles A (3-1), and Kenley Germany/Lila Satterfield in Girls Doubles A (3-1). Kurth placed third in Boys Singles B, and Scott Mason/Elli Kate Bussmeir also finished third with a 3-1 record.

The team will compete in the District 5-5A Tournament at TCU on April 29-30. The top two finishers in each event will advance to the Region I Tournament in Lubbock May 8-9. From there, the top two finishers in each event move on to state in San Antonio May 16-17.
