Fall team touts experience for Aledo

Posted

Following a successful spring season that sent eight players to Lubbock for the regional tournament, Aledo’s tennis team heads into the fall season with a significant number of experienced competitors returning to the club.

And, once again the Racquetcats are expected to walk away with a district championship - something that has been the norm for them for quite some time. Last season was no different as they won 5-5A and advanced past bidistrict in the postseason.

Craig Mason paired with outgoing senior Hogan Posey last spring as the duo won district before qualifying for regionals. Mason heads into his senior season at Aledo as a four-year varsity player for the Bearcats.

Scott Mason and Bryanna Orr won district last season in mixed doubles competition before making the trip to Lubbock. A four-year varsity player in his own right, Mason will cap off his high school career this year, as well. Meanwhile, Orr will bring a ton of high-level experience to her junior season for Aledo.

After qualifying for regionals last spring, Kenley Germany will have an opportunity to make another run in girl singles competition during her senior year.

Juniors Ben Farmer and Elli Kate Bussmeir will bring regional tournament experience into the fall campaign for the Bearcats, as well. Farmer qualified for regionals as a singles competitor. Paige Federman and Bussmeir made it to regionals as a team in girls doubles play. With the departure of Federman, Bussmeir will have an opportunity to parlay previous experience into future success this season.

Two more seniors will lead the boys team this fall. Ibrahim Choudhry and Nate Ashabraner round out the elder statesmen for the Bearcats.

For the underclassmen, Will Beyer, Jacob Heckathorn, Francois Britz, Eleanor Jack, Gracie Heydman, and Patrice Loftin make up the remaining juniors on the team. Natalie Nawrocki and Sydney Byrd are the only two sophomores on the team this year.

The tennis team welcomes six incoming freshmen to the team for the fall season. Lila Satterfield, Tom Ruminsky, Brennan Holbrook, Ben Kurth, Paxton Psencik, and Casen Freeland will have an opportunity to gain some wisdom from the seasoned upperclassmen as the season begins.
