The Bearcats swept both boys and girls most valuable player and newcomer of the year awards while the Roos most prestigious award went to coach Wesley Kidd for being named the district’s coach of the year.
“I’ll just say it was unexpected but just a reflection of the hard work our kids put in over the year to accomplish the goals we set out for ourselves,” Kidd said. “Nice that it was recognized by the other coaches in our district. My name is there, but it is definitely a team award from my assistant coach Casey Graham to our players, our admin, and our parents who have supported us.”
Aledo’s undefeated run through district play meant nearly all the team’s players were awarded with first- or second-team awards at their positions.
Bearcats Ben Kurth and Lila Satterfield earned the district’s MVP award. Satterfield also earned first-team recognition at Line 1 girls singles and girls doubles along with teammate Kjersten Loy. Kurth was awarded first-team all-district at Line 1 boys singles and was second team at Line 1 boys doubles along with his partner Casen Freeland.
Aledo’s Colt Harp, Bennet Purcell, and Addy Avent were named newcomers of the year. Harp earned first team honors in Line 4 boys singles and Line 3 boys doubles along with Tucker Thompson. Purcell was named first-team all-district Line 5 boys singles and Line 2 boys doubles along with partner Mason Peters.
Avent was awarded first-team recognition at Line 2 girls doubles along with partner Kieren Christensen and was named second team at Line 4 girls singles.
The highlights for Weatherford were Konnor Nickerson being named first-team all-district at Line 5 boys singles, and the Line 2 girls doubles pair of Addy Melven and Madeline Jordan were named second-team all-district.
