The Aledo Ladycats made short work of visiting Fort Worth Trimble Tech, winning 6-0, while the Bearcats battled to a 2-2 tie. It was senior night for both Aledo teams on Friday, Jan. 24 at Tim Buchanan Stadium.
The Ladycats (6-2, 1-0 in District 5-5A) posted their first shutout of the season in defeating Tech (5-4) in the non-district match. They had previously held four opponents to a single goal, including a 1-0 loss to Weatherford, the No. 1 team in the state in Class 6A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Earlier in the week, the Ladycats began district play by defeating Brewer (3-3-2, 0-1-1 in district) 4-1 on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Scoring goals for the Ladycats in the win over Brewer were Reese Harz, Emery Thompson, Ally Weimer and Avery Sands. Assists came from Ainsley Elmore with two, Weimer and Sands. Ava Fennell and Audrey Obana shared time as goalkeeper.
Weimer and Sands each scored two goals against Tech, with Elmore and Jules Avery each registering one. Sands had a pair of assists, with Weimer, Abigail Cates and Emma Grace Bolz each posting one. Again, Fennell and Obana were in goal.The Ladycats were hosting Saginaw Chisholm Trail at press time and travel to Keller Fossil Ridge on Friday, Jan. 31 for a 7:45 p.m. contest.
“Big week. Two new teams in district, both dropping from 6A and both have shown to be very competitive,” Ladycats coach Bryan Johnson said. “We need to get two this week to get a good lead going into the third week of district. They both will be difficult to break down and make for a tight game.”
The Bearcats (4-3-1, 0-1 in District 5-5A) played to a draw against Tech (3-5-3) as Harrison Kear and Eliot Smith each scored a goal with assists from Austin Randriamahefa and Robby Sloan.
The Bearcats began the week with a 1-0 loss at home to Brewer (3-5, 1-1 in district) on Jan. 21. It was the sixth game this season in which the Bearcats have surrendered one goal or less, including three shutouts.
Aledo was playing at Chisholm Trail at press time and is home to Fossil Ridge on Jan. 31 at 7:45 p.m.
