Ladycats

The Ladycats (6-2, 1-0 in District 5-5A) posted their first shutout of the season in defeating Tech (5-4) in the non-district match. They had previously held four opponents to a single goal, including a 1-0 loss to Weatherford, the No. 1 team in the state in Class 6A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

Earlier in the week, the Ladycats began district play by defeating Brewer (3-3-2, 0-1-1 in district) 4-1 on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Scoring goals for the Ladycats in the win over Brewer were Reese Harz, Emery Thompson, Ally Weimer and Avery Sands. Assists came from Ainsley Elmore with two, Weimer and Sands. Ava Fennell and Audrey Obana shared time as goalkeeper.

Weimer and Sands each scored two goals against Tech, with Elmore and Jules Avery each registering one. Sands had a pair of assists, with Weimer, Abigail Cates and Emma Grace Bolz each posting one. Again, Fennell and Obana were in goal.

The Ladycats were hosting Saginaw Chisholm Trail at press time and travel to Keller Fossil Ridge on Friday, Jan. 31 for a 7:45 p.m. contest.

“Big week. Two new teams in district, both dropping from 6A and both have shown to be very competitive,” Ladycats coach Bryan Johnson said. “We need to get two this week to get a good lead going into the third week of district. They both will be difficult to break down and make for a tight game.”
