Ladycats continue district decimation

AZLE – The Aledo Ladycats volleyball team faced a tough challenge in its second match against the Azle Lady Hornets as the visitors. After a slow start in a tight first set, though, the Ladycats surged through the next two sets to secure their 10th sweep in as many district contests. Aledo secured the victory by a final score of 25-23, 25-14 and 25-16.

With the victory, Aledo (28-7, 9-0) grew its win streak to 17 in a row. The first-set victory over Azle was the stiffest competition Aledo has faced to this point in the district portion of their season.

Furthermore, Aledo wrapped up the top spot in District 5-5A Region I with the win.

Star junior Alyssa Todd led the charge with 22 kills, 13 digs and two blocks. Meanwhile, senior middle Haley Lowe was impressive up front with nine kills and three blocks while fellow seniors Kinley Elms and Morgan Estevez had six kills apiece and each had a block. Estevez also registered seven digs.

On the back line, Ella Meador and Kenrie Pruitt each recorded 16 digs while Logyn Denbow added eight. Setters Ava Reding (18 assists, 11 digs) and Sophie Frank (22 assists, eight digs) distributed the ball well while helping anchor the back line defense. Reding also served two aces while Ella Isbell had three blocks in the match.

On the subvarsity level, the ninth grade B team (25-11 and 25-6), ninth grade A team (25-18 and 25-16) and the junior varsity squad (25-15 and 25-19) each defeated Azle in straight sets.

The Ladycats returned home and were hosting Keller Fossil Ridge at press time.

Aledo 3, Saginaw 0

The Ladycats continued their consistent, dominant ways with another convincing sweep. The Ladycats walked away with a resounding victory by a final score of 25-16, 25-9 and 25-9 at Saginaw on Oct. 15.

Star junior Alyssa Todd, who recently made a verbal commitment to Division I Abilene Christian University, led the charge with a game-high 13 kills to go with 10 digs, three aces and two blocks.

Senior middle Kinley Elms tallied 12 kills while senior middle Haley Lowe added six kills and two blocks. Ella Isbell registered a team-high three blocks, while setters Ava Reding and Sophie Frank combined for 30 assists. Ella Meador anchored the back line with 13 digs while Logyn Denbow and Kenrie Pruitt finished with 10 and seven digs, respectively. Meador also served two aces while Kailey Hamilton had one ace.

Furthermore, the subvarsity squad also took care of business. The ninth grade B team swept Saginaw (25-22 and 25-18) while the junior varsity team also won in straight sets (25-7 and 25-16).
