Ladycat lifters make history at Brock

Posted

The Aledo Ladycats powerlifting team made school history on Jan. 25 when they took first place in a meet for the first time in their history. They bested Glen Rose, Azle and Brock to win the Brock Invitational.

“So proud of the girls for getting the very first Ladycat powerlifting team victory. The girls that competed at the last meet made great progress and showed how much work they had put in,” Aledo coach Josh Morgan said. “We had a handful of girls that this was their first meet and they showed some real promise for the future.”

Three lifters won their respective weight classifications, Avery Gray in the 259-plus division, Jackie Melendez in the 165 category and Taylor Sehnem at 114 pounds.

Taking second in their divisions were Morgan Sehnem, 114; Charlee Soward, 123; Taylor Paetzold, 181; Haley Farmer, 198; and Adrianna Lambert, 220.

Third-place finishers were Lilly Caruthers, 97; and Hannah Clark, 148.

“We have a pretty good lineup coming together. Everyone is training hard and pushing each other,” Morgan said. “Right now the plan is to keep putting in work, and to keep getting better so we are ready to compete at our district championship and qualify as many girls as we can for the regional meet.”

Bearcats third at Brock

The Bearcat lifters placed third at Brock behind Glen Rose and Granbury. Several Aledo lifters placed second in their divisions, including Walker Nevin, 114; Andrew Chasteen, 165; Caleb Loath, 198; Alex Arana, 242; and DJ Williams, 308.

Taking third were Dahvon Keys in the 220 class and Raymond Howard in the 275 division. Peyton Williams was fourth at 308, Josh McCarley fourth at 242, Calen Atwood fourth at 220 and Bobbitt Carson placed fifth in the 148 class.
