Gribble vaults to win at Texas Relays

Sets new personal record

Aledo pole vaulter Sean Gribble cleared a school and personal-record 17 feet, 0.75 inches to top the field in the 95th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at the University of Texas in Austin on Saturday, April 1.

Gribble’s winning vault was four inches higher than runner-up Maddox Hamm of Scottsboro at 16-8.75.

“How cool is that? The Texas Relays isn't just a state preview meet, it is one of the top high school outdoor track and field meets in the nation, if not one of the top in the world,” Aledo coach Andrew Clark said. “Kids come to compete in that meet from multiple other states.

“Winning that meet is a huge accomplishment, not to mention a PR, and a new school record. And, doing it on the same stage that the state meet is hosted will be a huge advantage. Excited to see him compete in the upcoming meets.”

Gribble was joined at the prestigious meet by Ladycat Lauren St. Peters. She finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 41-5.5 and was 12th in the discus, throwing 136-6.

For Gribble, his previous best height was 16-8 at Aledo’s own Bearcat Relays on March 9. The first time he cleared 16 feet was 16-0 at the Northwest Texan Invitational on March 3.

Gribble has won five meets this season and 12 in his Aledo career.

Gribble and St. Peters will enter the District 5-5A Meet as favorites when they compete in Aledo Wednesday and Thursday, April 12-13.
