Aledo varsity cross country sweeps at Birdville

The Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats cross country teams competed at the Birdville Flyin’ Hawks Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 22 and both varsity teams swept to titles.

The Bearcats were led by Jack Fink’s first-place finish. Molly Garrison’s second-place finish paced the girls. 

The junior varsity boys had a fourth-place finish, while the JV girls – placing as a team for the first time this year – finished sixth.  

“Extremely proud of all these athletes!” exclaimed coach Mike Pinkerton.

 Full results from the 5K course were:

Varsity girls — First as a team. Molly Garrison, second individually, 19:44.19; Sophia Brandenburg, third, 20:01.06; Elizabeth Griffin, fourth, 20:12.02; Sidney Tillotson, ninth, 21:08.49; Aubrey Connally, 20th, 22:05.37.

Varsity boys — First as a team. Jack Fink, first, 16:29.81; Vincent Luffey, third, 16:55.54; Henry Zedler, sixth, 17:26.97; Dominick Barrera, ninth, 17:42.22; Sam Haught, 13th, 17:50.19; Anderson Smith, 17th, 18:10.77; Luke Schabel, 46th, 19:21.01.

JV girls — Sixth as a team. Emily Lewis, 13th, 23:30.23; Sadie Williams, 17th, 23:44.76; Caroline Browning, 33rd, 25:14.87; Catie Weimer, 47th, 26:14.30; Ashton Teague, 110th, 34:51.92.

JV boys — Fourth as a team. James Price, third, 18:50.10; Daniel Stephens, 12th, 19:17.49; Bo Merril, 26th, 20:20.88; Chad Thomas, 28th, 20:23.56; Caden West, 58th, 21:40.40; Ian Robbins, 62nd, 21:50.49; Lincoln Tuin, 69th, 22:22.14; Christian Flores, 80th, 22:49.90; Alex Gasper, 121st, 26:14.66.

Aledo’s next meet will be at the Granbury Race for the Loot on Friday, Sept. 30. This race will take place at the Granbury Disc Golf Course. First race will be the varsity girls at 8:30 a.m.
