Aledo faces one of state's best

Posted

The Aledo boys and girls wrestling's teams traveled to face one of the top programs in Texas when they made a trip to Azle for a dual match on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

And while the Hornets and Lady Hornets each won in their respective matches against the Bearcats and Ladycats, Aledo did have some highlights.

Among the boys, Dylan Chandler and Brice Bohn each won their matches. Chandler was competing in the 120-pound weight class and Bohn at 120.

For the girls, Aledo's Ari Mathias captured the lone win for the Ladycats. She competed in the 145 class.

Azle won the overall boys competition 68-9 and the girls match 58-6.

“Tough matchup with a solid Azle team. We wrestled well and I don’t think the score represents how we looked,” Aledo coach Ben Shaw said. “We did a lot of good things but made small mistakes that cost us. We will look to keep working and refining our skills as we head into the end of the season.

“We have duals against Springtown and Argyle this week that I am looking forward to. Then our final tournament at Chisholm Trail High School this weekend,” Shaw continued. Looking ahead to senior night on Jan. 22, where we will match up against a good Brewer team.”

The dual matches are in Springtown, which is also among the top programs around. The Senior Night match is the final home match of the season for Aledo and begins at 6 p.m..

The District 4-5A Tournament is in Fort Worth on Feb. 1.

The Class 5A Region I Tournament is Feb. 8 in Lubbock, with state Feb. 15 at the Berry Center in Houston. These tournaments are for those who qualify.
