Food Handlers Class

A Food Handlers Food Safety class will be offered from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. The cost for the class will be $20.
This two-hour course is for all food employees to help promote the service of safe food. The certificate is good for two years and is valid anywhere in the State of Texas. The course is a basic overview of food safety practices that are necessary to ensure that safe food is served at your establishment. Practices discussed include good personal hygiene, cross contamination and time and temperature abuse.

Fall Prevention Class

Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Office 604 N. Main, Weatherford, TX

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Parker County and the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging are offering a free program designed to reduce the risk of falls, increase physical activity, and sustain longer independent living among older adults. The classes run from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Aug. 2 at the Parker County Extension Office, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
“A Matter of Balance” is an evidence-based program that uses volunteer coaches to teach participants how to overcome their fear of falling, increase their strength and balance and improve their environment.
 Each year, one in every three adults age 65 and older falls, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Falls can cause moderate to severe injuries such as hip fractures and head traumas, and can increase the risk of early death. Surveys on “A Matter of Balance” have found that 97 percent of participants are encouraged to increase their physical activity upon completion of the program.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a three week Cooking Well Series from 10 a.m. to noon on Fridays Oct. 8, 15, and 22 at the Parker County Extension Office, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
Each week Cooking Well with focus on strategies for preparing healthy foods that will save you money and time. There will be hands-on food preparation and food to taste.
Oct. 8 – Veg Out! – Examine the benefits of vegetables and fruits. Prepare and sample some tasty recipe ideas and learn how to increase fruits and vegetables in your diet.
Oct. 15 – Cooking for One or Two – Learn strategies to make the most out of cooking for a household of one or two.
Oct. 22 – Cook Now, Enjoy Later. Discover how planning can reduce stress with freezer meals. We will provide ideas and participants will prepare a couple of freezer meals to take home.
The classes are $10 per person for the entire series, or $5 per session.

CERT Training

Parker County Office of Emergency Services 215 Trinity Street, Weatherford, Texas

Training for people who are interested in becoming part of the Parker County Community Emergency Response Team begins Wednesday, Oct. 13. A total of five classes will provide 27 hours of classroom and hands-on training at the county’s Emergency Services facility at 215 Trinity Street in Weatherford.
Class dates and times are:
Wednesday, Oct. 13 — 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 16 — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 20 — 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 23 — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tools for Parenting

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer a Love and Logic Parenting class from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, on Oct. 25 and 26, at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
The parenting classes will use the curriculum “Becoming A Love and Logic Parent” by Jim Fay and Charles Fay. The curriculum will cover Raising Responsible Kids, The Love and Logic Formula, C Stands for Control, Ownership of the Problem, Thinking and Decision Making, and Consequences. Also covered in the classes will be A Fresh Start to a Healthy You with a focus on Keeping Children Healthy, Food Safety, and Shopping Strategies for Healthy Eating.

Safe At Home Program

Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Office 604 N. Main, Weatherford, TX

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Parker County will conduct a “Safe @ Home” class from 10-11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 3, at the Parker County Extension Office, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. 
Safe @ Home will provide instruction for youth on how to be safe inside the house, outside the house, online, and with others when they are home alone. It will cover safety habits, how to handle emergencies, and making a call to 911. This class is for youth who will be in grades 4-6, or ages 9-12. The class will equip them to be safe when they are home alone.
The cost to attend is $20 per child, which includes a booklet and snack.

Safe Sitter Course

Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Office 604 N. Main, Weatherford, TX

Texas AgriLife Extension will conduct a Safe Sitter course from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21 at the Parker County Extension Office, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
Safe Sitter is a medically-accurate program that teaches boys and girls ages 11 and up how to handle emergencies when caring for children. The class teaches safe and nutrition childcare techniques, behavior management skills, and appropriate responses to medical emergencies. CPR basics will be covered but will not be a certification course.
The cost of the program is $50 that will cover materials and lunch. Any youth who would like to take the class can sign up by calling the Parker County Extension office at 817-598-6168.
