Trimble Tech post Anna McDowell hit a free throw with 15 seconds left which proved to be the game-winning  point as the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Aledo Ladycats, 48-47, Friday night in a girls’ area championship basketball game at Burleson Centennial High School.

The loss leaves the Ladycats with an overall record of 29-5. Tech will advance to the regional quarterfinals against Colleyville Heritage.

McDowell had tied the game, 47-47, with a pair of free throws with 27 seconds left to play. On its ensuing possession, Aledo turned the ball over and fouled McDowell, who hit the front end of a 1-and-1 as Tech led 48-47.

Aledo junior Elizabeth Allanach grabbed the rebound of McDowell’s second charity shot, but the Ladycats could not get off a final shot as Tech held on for the win.

Taylor Morgan scored 12 points to lead the Ladycats. Also scoring were Sarah Haeussler with 11 points, Janessa Payne and Riley Sale, each with 10, and Allanach and Alaina Touchet, each with two.

Paced by six points each from Haeussler and Payne, the Ladycats led 18-4 after the first quarter. Tech found its offense in the second period, scoring 23 points while holding Aledo to 11 to cut the Ladycats’ lead to 29-27 at the half.

Aledo outscored Tech 8-4 in the third period to take a 37-31 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, the Ladycats held a 41-31 lead early in the period and led 46-41 with 1:36 left in the game. But Tech closed the final stanza with a 7-1 run to seal the win.
