Soccer Bearcats take over first place after 4-0 victory over Saginaw; Ladycats breeze past Lady Riders

Simon Schulz scored a pair of goals and goalkeeper Konrad Garbowski earned the shutout as the Bearcats defeated Saginaw, 4-0, Tuesday night in a key boys' District 6-5A soccer match at Bearcat Stadium.

The win leaves the Bearcats in sole possession of first place with a 7-0-2 district record, while Saginaw drops into second place with a 7-1-1 mark.

Aledo led 2-0 at the half after goals by Schulz and Clayton Holt. The Bearcats finished off the Rough Riders in the second half with a goal each by Kyle Maurer and Schulz.

The Bearcats will continue district play on Friday at Bearcat Stadium against Eaton on Senior Night with a 7:30 p.m. start.

Ladycats 4, Saginaw 0

Aledo midfielder Cheney Huddleston scored a goal and earned a pair of assists to lead the Ladycats to a 4-0 victory over Saginaw in a girls' District 6-5A soccer match Tuesday night at Rough Rider Stadium in Saginaw.

The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to 7-2, while Saginaw drops to 1-7-1.

The Ladycats led 2-0 at the half after goals from Krista Thrasher and Kristen Burns. Thrasher's goal came on a free kick, and Huddleston assisted on Burns' goal.

The Ladycats extended their lead to 3-0 in the first minute of the second half on a goal by Hunter Jones off a feed from Huddleston.

Huddleston increased the Ladycats' lead to 4-0 by scoring on a penalty kick with 35:55 remaining in the match.

Starting goalkeeper Makenzie Covington was credited with the shutout, but Alexa Federman came into the game at the 20-minute mark of the second half and turned back every shot she faced.

The Ladycats will continue district play at 6 p.m. Friday at Bearcat Stadium against first-place Eaton (9-0).
