Competing in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs for the third consecutive year, the Aledo Ladycats will take another step toward the regional tournament when they face Fort Worth Trimble Tech in a girls’ Class 5A, Region I area championship game today.
Tip off will be at 7 p.m. at Burleson Centennial High School.
The Ladycats, trying to make it back to the regional tournament for the first time in two years, are coming off a 42-28 victory over Denton Ryan in the opening round of the playoffs. Aledo brings a 29-4 record into the contest and have won seven of their past eight games.
Trimble Tech (26-8), the District 7-5A champion, is on a 16-game winning streak and has not lost since December. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Richland, 42-36, in the first round of the playoffs.
The winner of the game will play the winner of the Colleyville Heritage/Denton game in the regional quarterfinals.
In other AHS sports action today, both soccer teams will face Northwest, and softball is playing at a tournament.
In soccer, the Bearcats, 3-0-2 in District 6-5A, will host 2-2-1 Northwest at 7:30 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium. The Ladycats, 3-2 in district play, will travel to 0-4-1 Northwest with a 7:30 p.m. start.
