Bearcats fall to Chisholm Trail in overtime, 56-45

Chisholm Trail outscored Aledo 14-3 in the overtime session as the Rangers got past the Bearcats, 56-45, Friday night in a boys' District 6-5A basketball game at the AHS gym.

The loss drops the 'Cats to 3-10 in district play, while Chisholm Trail raises its league mark to 8-5.

Aledo will host Saginaw at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the regular season finale.

Leo Bell led the Bearcats with 15 points. Also scoring were Noah Arrington with nine points, Cameron Yates with eight, Tre Owens with five, Hunter Vela with four, and Ayden Smith and Reid Dietrich, each with two. Smith also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

The Bearcats, paced by six points from Yates and five by Arrington, jumped out to a 15-6 lead after the opening quarter. Chisholm Trail found its offense in the second quarter, scoring 18 points while holding Aledo to eight to take a 24-23 lead at the half.

Bell got hot behind the arc in the third period. He began the quarter by hitting consecutive three-pointers from the top of the key and later added another trey.  The Bearcats outscored the Rangers 15-13 in the third period to take a 38-37 lead into the fourth quarter.

With 2:30 left in the fourth frame, Arrington scored on a put back to give Aledo a 42-40 lead, but Chisholm Trail hit a jumper to tie the game with a little more than two minutes remaining in regulation. After grabbing a rebound following a missed Aledo shot, the Rangers worked the clock down to two seconds before missing a jumper as the game went into overtime.

Of the Rangers' 14 points in the extra session, 12 points came from the free throw line.
