Eaton scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a tie game and the Lady Eagles held on to defeat the Aledo Ladycats, 8-5, Wednesday night in a District 6-5A softball game at Eaton High School.

The loss drops the Ladycats to 2-2 in district play, while Eaton raises its 6-5A mark to 3-1.

With the score tied 5-5, Eaton swatted three hits in the bottom of the sixth - including a run-scoring double - and took advantage of a walk to score three runs to take an 8-5 lead after six innings.

The Ladycats brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the seventh, but Eaton pitcher Madelyn Wright retired the next two Aledo batters to preserve the win.

Megan Reynolds and Bailee Whitener each recorded three hits to lead the Ladycats. Reynolds swatted a home run, double and a single and drove in a pair of runs, while Whitener registered two singles and a double. Lindsey Stroud (triple, single) and Sydney Marris (two singles) each recorded a pair of hits.

The Ladycats trailed 5-2 before scoring two runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 5-4. The big hit in the frame was a homer by Reynolds, with Marris driving in a run on a fielder's choice.

Aledo tied the game in the sixth, 5-5, when Stroud singled and scored a batter later on a double by Reynolds.

The Ladycats return to 6-5A action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Brewer.
