Both the Aledo Bearcats baseball team and Ladycats softball team defeated Brewer in respective District 6-5A contests Tuesday night at home.
Bearcats 9, Brewer 1
Aledo pitcher Kannon Brown allowed one hit and struck out eight to lead the Bearcats to an eight-run win over Brewer.
The win – which puts Aledo alone in first place – elevates the Bearcats’ district mark to 3-0, while Brewer drops to 2-1.
The lone hit Brown gave up was an infield hit in the second inning. It is the second one-hitter the senior has thrown this season.
The Bearcats broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead. Caden Jarvis and Gehrig Mosiello each drove in a run in the frame.
Aledo added three runs in the fifth to increase its lead to 7-1. The big hit in the inning was a two-run double by Hunter Rosson. Jarvis also drove in a run.
The Bearcats closed the scoring with two runs in the sixth. Jarvis collected his third and fourth RBI of the game with a two-run double.
Ladycats 10, Brewer 0
Megan Reynolds threw a four-hitter and did not walk a batter to lead the Ladycats to a 10-0 victory in a game stopped in the bottom of the sixth due to run rule.
The win raises the Ladycats’ district record to 3-2, while Brewer falls to 0-5.
The Ladycats swatted 16 hits in the contest as seven batters had multiple-hit games, led by Hannah Andrews and Mykayla Stroud, each with three hits.
Leading 4-0, the Ladycats put the game away with five runs in the fifth for a 9-0 advantage.
With the bases loaded in the sixth, Caden Cunningham lined a base hit to score Andrews to end the game.
