Third time a charm: Bearcats, Boswell square off for third game today to decide final 6-5A playoff spot

Posted

They played each other twice in District 6-5A play, and both games came down to the wire.

And now they will play one more.

The Aledo Bearcats and Boswell Pioneers each finished with 6-8 district marks, including a season split where each team won on the others home court.

Boswell took the first game in Aledo, 36-34, and in the rematch at Boswell High School in the second half of district play the Bearcats won a double overtime thriller, 66-63.

As a result, a tiebreaker game will be played between the two teams for fourth place and the final playoff spot in the district.

Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. today at Azle High School.

Bearcats head coach Fred Jones feels it will be another close game between the two rivals.

“With our style of play, we must be great late in games,” he said. “Boswell has great guard play and defends 94 feet. Our ability to take care of ball and finish in the paint will play a big factor. Our guys don't want the season to end, and it's showing on the court. It should be a good game against Boswell.”

The winner of the contest will advance to the Class 5A bi-district playoffs and face Denton Ryan, the co-champions of District 5-5A. Ryan won a coin flip over Denton High School to obtain 5-5A’s top seed.
