Aledo freshman guard Taylor Morgan scored six of her game-high 26 points in the overtime period to lead the Ladycats to a 56-51 victory over Dallas Home School Athletic Association Thursday afternoon in pool play at the Ladycat Invitational 2016 at the Aledo High School gym.

The Ladycats will be the second seed from Pool A in bracket play that begins Friday. The Ladycats will play at 10 a.m. tomorrow against the loser of this afternoon's Lubbock Trinity Christian/Arlington Sam Houston game that will wrap up bracket play.

HSAA led 16-12 after the first quarter, 26-25 at the half, and took a 35-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

With Aledo trailing 43-41 with less than a minute left in regulation, Morgan swished a three-point bucket from the left baseline to give the Ladycats a 44-43 lead with 50 seconds remaining in regulation.

But with 12 seconds left and the contest tied at 45-45, HSAA freshman guard Gracen Williams connected on a pair of free throws to give HSAA a 47-45 lead.

Morgan took it upon herself to send the game to overtime. Taking the in-bounds pass after Williams' second free throw, Morgan drove the length of the court and scored on a driving layup down the left side as the buzzer sounded to tie the game at 47 and send it into overtime.

Using momentum gained form the buzzer beating basket, the Ladycats began the extra session on a 6-0 run to take a 53-47 lead. Morgan began the rally with a layup off a feed from freshman post Janessa Payne, and after junior post Sarah Haeussler grabbed a rebound, freshman guard Riley Sale followed with a short jumper. HSAA failed to score on its next possession, and when Morgan was fouled she drained a pair of charity shots.

HSAA cut the lead to two points, 53-51, two minutes later, and Morgan was fouled with 45 seconds left in OT. The freshman canned both free throws and Sale added another charity shot as the Ladycats took a five-point win.

Also scoring for the Ladycats were Haeussler with 11 points, Payne and Elizabeth Allanach, each with seven, Sale with four and Cheney Huddleston with one.
