Allanach's late layup lifts Ladycats past Granbury, 50-48

Posted

Aledo sophomore guard Elizabeth Allanach scored the game-winning basket with two seconds remaining in the game to lift the Ladycats to a 50-48 victory over Granbury Tuesday in a non-district tilt at Granbury.

Granbury had tied the score at 48-48 with 14 seconds left to play. But Allanach took an inbounds pass and drove the baseline to send down the winning bucket.

Allanach had helped the Ladycats get back in the game by hitting three three-pointers in the third quarter.

Granbury led 14-7 after the opening quarter, but the Ladycats exploded for 19 points in the second period to cut the hosts’ lead to 27-26 at the half. Aledo outscores Granbury 15-12 in the third period to take a 41-39 lead into the fourth quarter.

Coaches report “the entire Ladycat team played together in the way they rebounded, worked offense, and harassed on defense.”

Allanach led the Ladycats with 13 points, with freshman post Janessa Payne adding nine. Also scoring were Chloe Mefford with eight points, Sarah Haeussler with seven, Cheney Huddleston with six, Hannah Adrion with five and Abby Losos with two.

The Ladycats will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday and continue non-district play at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stephenville.
