Man accused of shooting Fort Worth officer back in jail following bond violation

Ed McIver Jr. is back in jail this week after being arrested following a home visit where drugs were found.

McIver Jr. is accused of attempted capital murder in the shooting of Fort Worth Police officer Matt Pearce, who was shot following a pursuit involving McIver Jr. and his father Ed McIver Sr. The father was killed during the confrontation where Pearce was shot.

McIver Jr. was free on bond from the Tarrant County Jail and home visits were part of the conditions of his bond. On July 19, an investigator with the Weatherford/Parker County Special Crimes Unit visited McIver along with two Tarrant County probation officers. The bond conditions also permitted a search of the residence, person, business and any vehicle or container under the control of McIver.

According to the arrest affidavit, during a search of McIver’s bedroom, the investigator saw a wallet on top of a dresser. There was a baggie containing a crystal residue inside the wallet, which tested positive for methamphetamine. The affidavit states that McIver claimed possession of the wallet but stated the baggie was not his.

McIver was taken into custody and returned to Tarrant County where he remains in jail. He now faces an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance in Parker County.
