Sue_Swanson_WebSue Ann Krumboltz Swanson passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Her family was with her as she departed this life. Sue Ann Krumboltz was born in 1940 at Fairfield, Iowa. She was the daughter of Mildred and Dale Krumboltz. She attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and graduated with her RN at the young age of 20. She married the love of her life, Gary Swanson, in 1960. Gary and Sue met while students at Fairfield High School and dated while Sue attended Iowa Methodist and Gary attended Parsons College. In 1960 Gary and Sue moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Gary was employed by the Department of Agriculture and then in 1961 they moved to Fort Worth, when Gary was hired by General Dynamics. Sue was employed as a pediatric nurse at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth and later worked for pediatricians Dr. HW Anderson, Dr. Steven Cohen, Dr. James Louis and then for Pediatric Associates, Dr. Steve Senevy, where she retired in 2001. Upon retirement Gary and Sue pursued their passion of traveling the U.S. in their RV, visiting all 49 continental states via their RV. Sue was an avid gardener, loved growing flowers and any variety of anything green. Sue earned her Master Gardener certification in Parker County. Sue loved to garden at home or at the many community locations in Parker County where her green thumb was appreciated by all her fellow gardeners, an asset no doubt learned from her parents, who were lifelong farmers in Iowa. Sue was a passionate sports fan. She loved watching her children and grandchildren playing sports and she loved watching the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks. She always knew the latest scores, standings, where they were playing, who was pitching, who was injured and who was on a hot streak. She was especially fond of the Cowboys, who she cheered through the lean years as well as the Super Bowl championships. In addition, Sue loved to play bridge with her many bridge club friends with whom she maintained close friendships with for over 40 years. Sue "Mema" Swanson was the ultimate Mother and Grandmother. She doted on her grandchildren: Courtney Thomas Cook, Cody Thomas, Parker Swanson, Britton Swanson and Audrey Swanson. Her family will always remember her infectious smile, bubbling laughter, thoughtful and often crazy Christmas gifts, wonderful sense of humor, fantastic meal preparation and unconditional love of her family and friends. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Mildred Krumboltz; and brother, Tom Krumboltz. Survivors include her husband, Gary Swanson of Willow Park; son, Mark Swanson of Mansfield; daughter and son-in-law, Dina and Jim Thomas of Aledo; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Cindy Swanson of Heath; grandchildren, Courtney Thomas Cook of Alamagordo, New Mexico and husband, George; Cody Thomas of Houston and Parker, Britton and Audrey Swanson of Heath; sister-in-law, Karen Krumboltz of Fairfield, Iowa; and sister, Jane Carmichael and husband, Robert "Bob" of Shenandoah, Iowa, whose unselfish and tireless caring assistance during the last weeks of Sue's life will always be appreciated by her family. Memorial service was set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22 at Grace First Presbyterian Church, Weatherford. Interment: 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22 in Annetta Cemetery. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace First Presbyterian Church of Weatherford or Parker County Master Gardener Association of Weatherford.
