Scaling qualifies for regional golf tournament; Bearcats finish 4th at District 8-5A tourney

Under conditions that saw a steady wind of 20 miles per hour and gusting from 25-30 m.p.h. today at the boys' District 8-5A golf tournament at Pecan Valley Golf Course in Benbrook, Aledo Bearcats No. 1 golfer Parker Scaling shot a final-round 80 for a 36-hole of 155 to claim the final medalist spot for the Class 5A, Region I tournament.

The top two teams qualify for the regional tournament as do the top two individuals not on the advancing teams. The Region I tournament will be Monday and Tuesday, April 11-12, at Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock.

Scaling, who shot a 75 in the opening round, led the Bearcats Black team to a final-round score of 329. The Black 'Cats shot a 318 in Tuesday's opening round as Aledo shot a 36-hole total of 647, good for fourth place on the all-underclassman squad. Aledo Orange placed seventh after a two-day score of 707 (348-359).

Granbury Purple (299-305-604) won the tournament, followed by Burleson (309-322-631) and Granbury Gold (312-321-633).

Other Aledo Black totals include Andrew Lane with a 161 (77-84), Reed Rogers with a 164 (80-84), Evan Pennington with a 167 (86-81) and Ben Huxtable with a 174 (88-86).

Austin Griffith led Orange with a 173, shooting 87 in the opening round and 86 today. Other Orange scores include Bryce Ferguson with a 175 (85-90), Hank James with a 181 (93-88), Kyle Coats with a 184 (89-95) and Matthew Kirkland with a 186 (87-99).
